Our Curriculum

Curriculum learning at St. Aloysius Catholic Federation

Early Years Foundation Stage

Children learn new skills, acquire new knowledge and demonstrate their understanding in seven areas of learning and development.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Key Stages 1 & 2

Core Subjects Mathematics, English, Science and Religious Education.
Foundation Subjects History, Geography, Art and Design, Design Technology and Computing.
Wider Curriculum Physical Education, Personal Development and Modern Foreign Language: French.

Our curriculum supports pupils to grow in confidence, develop key knowledge and skills, and prepare for the next stage of their learning journey.

Parent/Carer Partnership

We acknowledge the importance of parents and carers as a child’s first educator and aim to work together with families.

Parent Workshops

During the year, families are invited to join us for a range of focused workshops. These are intended to support you at home when helping your child to learn and provide an opportunity for us to share teaching strategies your child will be familiar with.

Home-School Diary

At the beginning of school, your child will receive a home-school diary. This is an opportunity for you and your child to record anything they would like to share from home, such as photographs, tickets, drawings or special memories.

Reading Together

Supporting your child’s reading development is one of the most important things you can do. Children who read and are read to often at home make accelerated progress in reading.

PTFA: Our friendly and relaxed parent group fundraises to enhance the experience of all children in school. The group meets every half term to share ideas, plan events and generate income.

SEND & Safeguarding

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

St. Aloysius is committed to maintaining and developing the education of all pupils.

Through observations, children with a special educational need are identified at an early stage and strategies are developed between school, home and any appropriate service to address concerns and meet individual needs.

Please inform school of any specialists currently involved with your child or contact us if you have any concerns about your child’s progress.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding our pupils is our number one priority. We are a listening school and staff are trained in safeguarding procedures.

Our Executive Headteacher and Head of School are Designated Safeguarding Officers and all school staff undertake safeguarding and child protection training.

We work closely with South Tyneside and Clennell Education Solutions safeguarding teams and follow the guidance of Keeping Children Safe in Education. All staff are DBS checked before working in school.
