World Book Day

Some amazing outfits and lots of fun had during World Book Day this year! In Year 1 our focus author was Oliver Jeffers- the children read a number of his books, tried to build a tower to reach the moon after reading The Way Back Home and even wrote what they would take on a long journey after reading Lost and Found.

Languages Day!

Today, classes across the school chose different languages to focus upon. Within Year 1 we looked at Chinese. We discussed the culture, important celebrates like New Year and even worked out it’s the Year of the snake. We had a go at writing our names in Chinese and even tasted some delicious noodles and prawn crackers. A fantastic day!!

Multi-skills Club

Our final Multi-Skills club for Year 1 and 2. This week we focused on games and had some fun competing for some small prizes. Another fantastic session. We hope all the children have enjoyed these sessions and a huge well done from all of us!

Safer Internet Day!

Children in Year 1 today discussed the importance of the internet and technology, why we use it and ways we can stay safe. This year we had a special focus on scams, with rise in the use of technology it is important to keep ourselves safe where we can. The children all recognise they should not talk to people online they do not trust/know and understood that trusted adults are always there if they need them.

Exotic animal visit

Just a snapshot of some of the fun we had today when we were paid a visit from a number of exotic animals. A great opportunity to identify different animals relating to our Science unit- Animals including Humans. As well seeing an Owlet- which linked very well to our new class English text Owl Babies.

Reasoning and Problem Solving

A few snaps of our children hard at work during our Reasoning and Problem Solving Maths lessons. Children are given a problem and the chance to work in partner/small groups with a range of equipment to solve that problem. These lessons have been vital in developing fluency, reasoning and key skills like working systematically.

Multi-skills Club

Multiskills club this week had a focus on ball control, manipulation and dribbling. The children even ended with some shooting practice putting their throwing skills to the test!

Year 1 Computing Club

With technology growing and expanding around us. We have offered a Computing Club to Year 1 children which like in their curriculum lessons has focused on Digital Literacy, fine motor skills and understanding of how to use technology in a safe and meaningful way. Mrs Backhurst and Mrs Brown have ben blown away with how good the children have been, well done everyone!

Computing @ St Aloysius

Across Year 1 our Computing focus has been to develop Digital Literacy using a number of devices. The children have worked with tablets, IPADS, laptops and more recently worked on desktop computers using the mouse and keyboard to broaden their skills. Well done Year 1!

Multi-skills Club 

Another Monday another Multi-Skills club. Football!!! Children this week were focusing on ball control and passing while working within a team.

Break time library visits

A few shots of the children during one of our many break time library visits. Every week, the children are given the option and opportunity to emirs themselves in a range of texts during their morning break time fulfilling our aim to promote reading for pleasure across our school. The children sometimes even lucky enough to hear a teacher from another class read a story during this time!

The day has finally come as the children get to follow a recipe, prepare the fruit and of course taste the smoothies. In Design Technology the children have been building towards creating their own fruit smoothies by testing, investigating packing and creating recipes. A job well done and the children loved it!

Other Faiths Day

Throughout other faiths day we continued to discuss our British Values and Protected Characteristics and highlighting how we can show respect to everyone around us. We learnt about many faiths other than our Catholic faith and completed some fantastic activities like meditation, bracelet building and some brilliant art work!

Pantomime!

Oh no you didn’t! Oh yes we did go to the pantomime. It was a fantastic show in which both children and staff loved. A great day and a lovely way to celebrate our first term!

Christmas Party Day

Some amazing outfits for Christmas Party Day and some even better dance moves when Year 1 and 2 took to the light up dance floor. Merry Christmas!!

Festive Jumper Day!

Festive Jumper Day! As we move through Advent and Christmas Day continues to get closer and closer we were lucky enough to have a visit from Santa Claus. A brilliant way to end the year.

Nativity

Weeks of preparation, practice and hard work has paid off as the whole of Year 1 delivered a beautiful Nativity performance for their attending family members.  Thanks to everyone for attending! Well done Year 1!!

Multi-skills festival Y1JB

Mr Brown’s class were very excited to travel on the minibus to Temple Park today and get a chance to put their PE skills and techniques to the test during the Multi-skills festival.

Design Technology in Year 1

Fruit tasting for DT

Apples, oranges and even lemons! The children were fruit tasting in DT and using some of our cross curricular learning to describe the taste, texture and smell of these fruits using their senses and adjectives. PS. The lemons didn’t go down too well!!!

RE in Year 1

Decorating the tree (signs of Advent)

In RE we have discussed different ways that we prepare for specials times and especially at this time of year, Advent. The children then worked to decorate the tree in preparation for Christmas time.

Geography in Year 1

During our Geography lessons we have been identifying different parts of our local area. As a year group we went for a learning walk to identify some different physical and human features of our local area and even got a chance to safely check out the River Tyne.

Fun in the snow

A snowy day meant one thing, a chance to play in the cold.

Computing in Year 1

During our Computing lessons we have been discussing and identify different technology and how they are used. The children went on a hunt around school to identify some tech and were able to spot different objects we use in our day to day lives.

Year One Green Treat

For Green Treat this half term, the children in Year One followed the instructions they wrote in our recent English lesson and made their own jam sandwiches. The children loved making these and loved eating them even more!

Now our instructions are ready to send to Zog!
