On Wednesday this week, it was No Pen Day in school.  We still enjoyed our learning but in many different creative ways.  Our day started with a music lesson, then we completed Personal Development where we had to share photos of the special people in our lives.  On the afternoon, we started with Maths.  We were learning about odd and even numbers.  We started by sorting the Numicon pieces into hoops and we discussed how to recognise if a number was odd or even.  Then, we completed some ‘Odd and Even Trees’ by sorting the numbers.  We finished with English where we had to match verbs and adverbs.  We acted out the phrases and then had LOTS of fun writing sentences with the verbs and adverbs into shaving foam.

Recently, we celebrated World Book Day in Year Two.  We were so impressed with all of the children’s knowledge of different books and authors!  Not to mention – the amazing costumes.  Throughout the day, the children completed lots of activities based around ‘The Tunnel’ text by Anthony Browne.  In English, the children wrote a descriptive piece to describe where they might have ended up at, at the other end of the tunnel.  In Maths, the children completed addition tunnels by adding two two-digit numbers.  In Geography, the children researched our local area by learning about the location of the Tyne Tunnel.  Later that afternoon, the children enjoyed sharing a story with their reading buddies.

Last half term, we had a Kindness Cafe in Year Two.  It was a gorgeous morning where we got to relax, chat with our friends and we even enjoyed some delicious breakfast snacks.  We had such a great time!

Recently, Year Two have been looking at Algorithms in our Computer Science lessons.  We have thought about how algorithms are used as a set of instructions, step by step.  We looked at Logical Reasoning by having a pack of instruction cards and as a team, we had to try to figure out which step may have been missing.

Last Friday, the children spent the afternoon celebrating Number Day in Year Two.  We watched an NSPCC video so that the children could understand why we celebrate Number Day and the children enjoyed coming into school dressed with numbers.  The children had so much fun completing a robot jigsaw in pairs and they enjoyed playing pairs with different money cards.

In Year Two, we have been thinking about our British Values and we have focused ‘democracy’ this week.  We considered how it is important for each and every child to have an opinion on our class read for story time at the end of the day.  Using our voting station, the children voted for the end of day story.  In Mrs Storey’s class, Ivesti-GATORS won!

Last Thursday, some of Year Two attended Board Games club and we all had lots of fun.  We spoke about the importance of turn taking, working as a team and listening to one another.  The children enjoyed playing Guess Who, Scrabble, Dinkee and Dobble.  We will be looking at some of these games again next week with a few new board games too!

The children in Year Two are currently learning about the column method in our ‘Addition and Subtraction’ topic.  The children have enjoyed using Base 10 to work out the calculations using the column method.  We have been extremely impressed with how hard they are working!  We have even looked at addition crossing a 10 and subtraction crossing a 10 and they have completely took it in their stride.  Well done Year Two.

Last week, the children in Year Two had lots of fun making sandwiches.  First of all, we discussed the importance of health and safety and thought about how important it was to wash hands before we started.  Next, the children decided on the type of bread they wanted to use – either baguettes, wraps or pitta breads.  Then, they filled the bread with lots of different fillings.  We discussed the bridge and claw grip when using a knife to keep ourselves safe when cooking.  The children thoroughly enjoyed eating their sandwiches!
