VE Day In Nursery

9 May 2025 By lsmissen

The Nursery children have been very busy learning all about VE Day.  They enjoyed exploring the importance of Air Raid Shelters during the war.  The children looked at lots of photos and watch some videos about how Air Raid Shelters were made and used.  They decided they would like to build their own Air Raid Shelters and worked very hard in the Secret Garden.  The children enjoyed building and exploring the different materials and designs. During Playtime they had a chance to have a cupcake or biscuit from the bake sale.  The children even prepared for a VE Day picnic by making Union Jack flags, jam sandwiches and biscuits. The children were also very respectful as they observed the two-minute silence and remembered all that happened during the War. Finally, they had the best VE Day picnic where they enjoyed lots of yummy food, while listen to and singing songs from the war.

This week in nursery we have been learning all about Chinese New Year.  This year, it is the Year of the Snake, and we have been listening to the story of the Great Chinese Race.  We have been very busy making yummy Chinese stir fry with noodles.  We have also created an amazing dragon and made up our own dragon dance to music.   Finally, we had lots of fun counting coins into our lucky red money wallets.

Early Words Together

8 November 2024 By jbroadhurst

A group of our Nursery parents and carers came into school this morning to begin their Early Words Together workshops. The programme, delivered by South Tyneside Council Family Hubs, gives our parents and carers the chance to spend quality time with their child through a range of language and communication focused activities. This includes sharing books and stories, singing songs and rhymes, playing with letters and sounds and drawing as part of the early stages of learning to read and write. The first session was all about supporting talk through imaginative play, early years practitioners supported our group to develop listening skills and build vocabulary through shared talk and use of imagination. It was a lovely session filled with plenty of fun and lots of rich language.
