Times Tables Olympics

Our children are encouraged to learn their times tables from a young age.  They should be proficient in their tables up to 12 x 12.  Please encourage your child to practice their times tables on a daily basis, as they are a vital part of every child’s maths tool kit.

To encourage our children to learn their times tables, the Junior school children take part in a weekly times tables Olympic challenge.  The levels of the challenge are:

Preliminary – 2, 5 and 10 times tables

Bronze – 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables

Silver – 3, 4, 8 and 11 times tables

Gold – 6, 7, 8 and 12 times tables

European – all times tables

Olympic Champion – all times tables

Pupils need to know both the multiplication and division facts.  For example:

9 x 7 = 63 and 7 x 9 = 63

63 ÷ 7 = 9 and 63 ÷ 9 = 7

In the Junior School Hall we have a whole school leader board, as there is a time limit attached to the challenge.  The fast the recall of your times tables, the faster the time you can record for the challenge.

Will your child be on our Leader Board?

For those who become Olympic Champion they move onto the Mount Olympus Mental Arithmetic Challenge, which encompasses common questions asked in mental arithmetic, such as doubling and halving, multiplying by powers of 10 and order of operations.

For fun – How would you do?
